Hurt.  Pain.  Tragedy.  It’s all around us these days, leaving us with more questions than answers.  We feel paralyzed by heartache, pain, and injustice. We feel the sting and we try to make some sort of sense of it all. To make our way through it all.  To rise above.  We swallow hard, look up, and press on. But it’s still there isn’t it? So what do we do when tragedy strikes? When the bad news comes? When hurt and misery become far too friendly companions in our lives?

Though our world may shake and our spirits lose their strength, we do not lose heart.  Underneath it all is a God who is doing something.  A God who sees and knows. A God who is unphased by our perceived limitations of Him and operates beyond the boundaries of our timelines. A God who can handle the doubt we have as our hearts crush within us.  A God who enters into our darkness and weeps with us.  So we look not at what is seen, but hang on to that which is unseen.

“Let us know, let us press on to know the Lord; his going out is as sure as the dawn; he will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth.” Hosea 6:3  As we yearn for God alone, we find a love that can swallow up our deepest hurts and an intimacy that will satisfy our greatest longings.  He will respond.

Maybe, when the answers run out, the questions remain, and we sit in the silence of our pain, God can finally speak. Maybe, when our unrealistic expectations become realistic disappointments, we can finally know the fully satisfying love of God. Maybe for now, the waiting room, is actually God’s operating table, bringing healing to the deep wounds of your heart. Maybe in our break down, we will find our break through. Don’t give up searching. Keep pressing in. May a new song rise up as you take courage. Do not lose heart.
